Job summary

Godwin Heights Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute to support an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) classroom for a temporary assignment of up to 12 weeks. The substitute will provide a safe, structured learning environment while implementing established instructional plans and supporting the academic, behavioral, social, and individual needs of students.

The successful candidate must be registered and eligible to work as a substitute through EduStaff.

Qualifications

• Must be registered and eligible to work through EduStaff.
• Must meet EduStaff and State of Michigan substitute requirements.
• ASD endorsement is not required for this assignment.
• Experience with students with disabilities or in a special education setting preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction and classroom support aligned with lesson plans and IEPs.
• Support ASD students in academic, behavioral, social, and communication areas.
• Maintain a structured, positive classroom environment.
• Monitor progress and report information to staff.
• Collaborate with special education and general education teams.
• Support paraprofessionals and participate in student-related meetings.
• Communicate with students, families, and staff while maintaining confidentiality.
• Implement behavior plans and classroom procedures.
• Supervise students during activities, including transportation when needed.
• Maintain regular attendance during the assignment.
