Job summary

Oakland University’s Academic Success Center, in collaboration with the School of Music, Theater and Dance, seeks a Peer Tutor for Fall 2026 to assist students in Music Theory and Aural Skills.

You will conduct appointment-based tutoring in Varner Hall, create inclusive learning environments, and share effective study strategies while developing strong time-management and listening skills. Begin September 2026; 10 hours of paid CRLA Level 1 certification training will be completed by year end.

Qualifications

• Must be a currently enrolled OU student in a degree-seeking program with three or more OU courses completed.
• Second-semester freshman standing or higher.
• Minimum 3.7 GPA (A-) in the course(s) tutored.
• Adequate demonstration of time/time management skills.
• Obtain a minimum of one recommendation form from a current OU faculty member.
• Work-Study applicants are welcome!

Responsibilities

• Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to learn.
• Conduct appointment-based tutoring in Varner Hall.
• Provide strategies to enhance understanding of course material.
• Utilize active listening to identify students' needs.
• Appointment tutoring with a regular weekly set of appointments; shifts depend on subject/course need and tutor schedule.
