Job summary

State of Oklahoma - Government Agency is seeking an AS/400 Developer/Admin contractor for a 1-year engagement (20 hours per week) in Oklahoma City, with hybrid options available. Work authorization allowed: USC or GC only.

Responsibilities include maintaining legacy RPG/CL code, tuning DB2 for i SQL, and ensuring system security; coordinating with the hosting provider for patches and backups; managing job queues and file transfers; and documenting data flows to support modernization efforts.

Qualifications

• 5 years hands-on AS400 (IBM i) development and support.
• Proficiency in RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, CL, and SQL on DB2 for i.
• Experience in hosted/managed AS400 environments with external hosting providers.
• Strong IBM i work management, subsystem coordination, and user profile management.
• Background in file transfer automation (FTP, SFTP) and external integrations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, modify, and optimize legacy RPG, RPG IV, RPGLE, CL code.
• Investigate and troubleshoot operational bugs and batch anomalies.
• Update logic to adapt to regulatory/licensing changes and agency processes.
• Coordinate with hosting provider for OS patches, DB utilities, and environment changes.
• Manage application-level security configurations and audit logs.
• Handle local job queues, subsystems, and application-level schedulers.
• Coordinate with hosting/storage teams for backups and DR testing.
• Tune DB2 for i databases and optimize SQL queries and indexes.
• Support secure file transfers and interfaces with hosted AS400 partitions.
• Collaborate with state DBAs and cloud architects on data extraction and archiving.
• Document system flows and database schemas for migration to cloud.
