  • Excursions and festival events: co-chaperone, ensure safety, engagement, and learning.
  • Orientation and graduation: assist in planning and attending orientation and graduation.
  • Evaluation and feedback: develop and administer surveys to assess progress.
  • Dedication and reliability: maintain attendance, preparedness, flexibility, and professionalism.

Job description

The International Festival of Arts and Ideas’ Fellowship Program offers qualified New Haven public school sophomores and juniors a unique, fully-funded opportunity to learn about the artsand arts administration. The Fellowship Program is a semester-long college-level course designed to develop students’ skills in communication and critical thinking by immersing them in all aspects of the Festival: performances, lectures, community engagement, production, and management.

Through weekly seminars, a broad range of arts-related activities, and the attendance of diverse arts events, we aim to equip the Fellows with the skills to become the next generation of artists, thinkers, and audience members. Fellows will learn to think and speak critically about the themes of the Festival’s various concerts, classes, talks, and performances, and ultimately lead their own event during the Festival as their capstone project.

Accredited through Gateway Community College, the Fellowship Program offersstudents 3 college credits and an academic transcript upon successful completion of the program.

The Gateway Community College Adjunct Professor will serve as a key liaison between Gateway Community College (GCC) and the Arts & Ideas Fellowship Program. The Adjunct Professor will co-teach the 2027 Fellowship Cohort alongside the Arts & Ideas Community Impact Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Co-Teaching: Collaborate with the Arts & Ideas Fellowship Instructor to co-teach the High School Fellowship Program.
  • Curriculum Development: Assist in the creation and adaptation of curriculum, daily agendas, and assignments for the Fellowship cohort.
  • Student Support: Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students, particularly as they develop their Capstone Projects.
  • Excursions & Events: Co-chaperone Fellowship excursions and festival events, ensuring student safety, engagement, and learning.
  • Orientation & Graduation: Assist in planning and attending Fellowship orientation sessions (December 2026) and the graduation ceremony (June 2026).
  • Evaluation & Feedback: Develop and administer surveys to assess student progress at the beginning, middle, and end of the program.
  • Dedication and Reliability: Demonstrate consistent attendance, preparedness, flexibility, professionalism, and commitmentto supporting studentsthroughout the Fellowshipexperience.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in the subject matter or closely related field
  • Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
    • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Additional qualifications may be requested, as relevant to the academic department.

Background Check:As this is a role that deals directly with children, the successful applicant will be subject to a criminal background check.

Schedule and Time Commitment:
  • Planning and Preparation: December 2026 to January 2027
  • Orientation: First week of December
  • Course Instruction: Mid-January – Mid May (Wednesdays from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM).
  • Festival Immersion: The Month of June (based on festival dates)
Compensation:
  • Pre-Course Planning and Festival Immersion: $25/hour for planning and preparationand over the course of the festival dates in June 2027.
  • Course Instruction (15 weeks): The course is worth 3 academic credits, with compensation of approximately $7,056 for the entire semester. GCC will issue payment at a rate of $2,352 per credit.
