Internship, $18.47/hr and the intern must complete a total of 400 hours for the duration of the internship.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Arts Education Intern will spend the summer of 2026 at Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum acquiring work experience in arts education and administration. The theatre and grounds are ADA compliant. The primary project of the internship is to help conduct, from start to finish, four classics-based arts education programs serving all ages. The programs are the Youth Drama Camp (ages 8-13), the Young People’s Camp (ages 4-7), the Teen Shakespeare Intensive (ages 14-18), and the Adult Shakespeare Intensive. The Arts Education Intern will receive on-the-job training and mentorship from staff who are accomplished actors and teaching artists. The intern will have the opportunity co‑teach or lead theatre workshops for the younger students. This is a 40 hour a week, 10 week position running from early June through mid‑August. The weekly schedule will include hours during days, evenings, weekdays, and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking candidates with a passionate interest in theatre arts and education. The Arts Education Intern must be able to work well with children and community members of all backgrounds. Knowledge of basic computer software (Word, Excel, Google Suite) and strong written and verbal communication skills are preferred. Candidates will need to be able to focus in an energetic, communal office environment and feel comfortable working in “the great outdoors” of the Santa Monica Mountains. Flexibility over the three month internship period is required to accommodate the varying weekly schedule of this position. The final candidate will successfully complete a Live scan background check prior to starting work.

2026 Arts Internship positions will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Recent graduates may apply as long as they have completed their degree between May 1 – December 1, 2026. The Department of Arts and Culture encourages eligible students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as disabled students, to apply. Eligible students may participate in the program only once.

Eligibility Notes
  • Students who have already earned a BA, BS, or a higher degree are not eligible for the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program.
  • High school students who are co‑enrolled in college classes are not eligible to participate in the program.
  • Students who have previously participated in the program are not eligible to participate a second time.
  • Students must possess the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Students who are invited to participate in the program will be asked to provide verification of eligibility via college transcripts, driver’s license, and other documents to show enrollment status and/or LA County residence.

There are no exceptions to our eligibility requirements.

This internship is conducted by a grant through the LA County Department of Arts and Culture.
