Responsibilities

  • Monitor lab and Fine Arts spaces to ensure appropriate use of space, equipment, and software.
  • Check in/out designated equipment following department protocols.
  • Assist with day-to-day maintenance of Fine Arts classrooms and spaces, including restocking and inventory.
  • Assist with execution of Arts & Communication events, including theatre productions and showcases.
  • Assist with event and production needs such as lighting, sound, props, and costumes.
  • Maintain equipment and spaces, enforce policies, coordinate with campus Security and Facilities.
  • Report issues to Department Chair or Director of Operations promptly.
  • Keep workstations organized and assist with cleaning or resetting spaces.
  • Support departmental marketing and publicity, including social media graphics and flyers.
  • Assist with creative projects for departmental promotions and events.
  • Print and copy materials as needed.
  • Maintain logs of lab use and equipment checkout.
  • Assist with additional operational duties as assigned.
  • Take responsibility for timesheet and schedule changes per work-study allotment.

Job Summary:

The Department of Arts & Communication is seeking part-time student assistants to support performing arts projects, events, publicity, creative projects, and day-to-day operations. This position may include work in the Design Lab, Fine Arts spaces, theatre productions, visual arts showcases, marketing, and other departmental activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Monitor lab and Fine Arts spaces to ensure appropriate use of space, equipment, and software.
  • Check in/out designated equipment (e.g., cameras, drawing tablets, external drives) following department protocols.
  • Assist with day-to-day maintenance of Fine Arts classrooms and spaces, including restocking, inventory, removal of outdated flyers, and noting work orders or repairs needed.
  • Assist with the execution of Arts & Communication events, including theatre productions, visual arts showcases, and other live events.
  • Assist with event and production needs such as hanging and striking lighting instruments, installing and testing sound equipment, operating light and/or sound boards, scenic construction and painting, sourcing and stocking props and costumes, maintaining event spaces, greeting audiences, and ushering.
  • Assist with inventory, maintenance, and organization of equipment and departmental spaces, including the theatre, costume/props storage, arts studio classroom, and Design Lab. Enforce lab and space policies and maintain a respectful, productive atmosphere; interface with campus Security and Facilities teams, as needed.
  • Report technical issues, damage, or security concerns to the Department Chair or Director of Operations promptly.
  • Keep workstations organized and assist with minor cleaning or resetting of lab and event spaces.
  • Support departmental marketing and publicity, including creating and designing social media posts, content and graphics, distributing flyers and posters, and tabling at fairs and open houses.
  • Assist with creative projects related to departmental promotional needs and ongoing events.
  • Print and copy materials as needed.
  • Maintain logs of lab use and equipment checkout activity, as assigned.
  • Assist the Department Chair and Director of Operations with additional operational duties as assigned.
  • Take responsibility for timesheet, time off, tracking hours, and making adjustments in the schedule, as per work-study allotment, communicating with supervisor any schedule changes.

Note: hours may vary depending on departmental needs; some afternoons/evenings, and occasional weekends, may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to develop and implement work plans.
  • Ability to work individually and independently, taking ownership of assigned tasks and completing them in a timely manner.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and Google applications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Independent in maintaining a regular schedule and attending to paperwork.
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude.
  • Willingness to ask for help and problem solve.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods; ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Knowledge of or experience in the performing arts, event management, graphic design, digital media, or marketing is a plus.
  • Interest or desire to learn event producing and technical elements of live events.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a program related to Graphic Design, Digital Media, Marketing, Communication, Cinematic Arts, or another Arts & Communication discipline.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and Mac OS environment.
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms and marketing communication.
  • Creativity and interest in visual design, content creation, live events, or technical theatre.
Work-Study Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Requirements:
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours
  • Must not have already earned a first bachelor’s degree
  • Must be pursuing an eligible program of study
Selection Process:

All submitted applications will undergo an initial review to verify work-study eligibility. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will have their applications forwarded to the hiring manager for consideration. The hiring manager will contact selected candidates to schedule an interview. Applicants who do not meet work-study eligibility requirements will not be advanced in the selection process.
