Job summary

Oakton College's Art Department is seeking an Lab Assistant Student Employee to monitor the ceramics, 2D/3D Design and Drawing/Painting studios during open studio times.

You will mix clay and glazes, load and unload gas and electric kilns, assist with special projects and exhibitions, and provide friendly customer service to students. The role emphasizes safety, organization, and support for classes while allowing homework time when feasible.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled at Oakton College in at least 6 credit hours during fall and spring semesters.
• GPA of 2.0 or higher and in good standing at Oakton College.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Some experience taking art classes, ceramics preferred.
• Experience with tools.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Monitor studio during open studio times and ensure safe practices.
• Mix clay and glazes for classes.
• Load/unload and fire gas and electric kilns.
• Serve as a resource for students during open studio.
• Answer phones.
• Assist Art Department Staff with exhibitions/setup artwork.
• Provide customer service and maintain an organized/clean studio.
