Oakton College's Art Department is seeking a Lab Assistant (Skokie Student Employee) to support Drawing/Painting studios by providing Open Studio time, keeping the space clean, helping set up still life objects, prepping the room for model usage, answering phones, and assisting instructors as needed. The role emphasizes safety monitoring when the instructor is away.

Applicants must be enrolled in Oakton College, have art coursework, and be able to lift 50 lbs.

Qualifications

Must have some art experience and have taken at least a high school level drawing or painting course.
Students enrolled in Drawing/Painting classes at Oakton College during the semester they are employed are preferred.
Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.
Must be currently enrolled at Oakton College in at least 6 credit hours during Fall and Spring semesters. Summer employment allowed for new students taking at least 1 credit class.
Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College.
Demonstrated reliability and responsibility
Must be Friendly, flexible, organized, courteous, and punctual.
Eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

Work with instructor to create various still life setups for Drawing/Painting classes.
Monitor studio and make sure that safety practices are being followed.
Serve as a resource person to students utilizing the Drawing/Painting Studio.
Work with Art Department staff and student employees to collect and set up artwork for art exhibitions.
Help prepare needed materials for demonstrations and general student usage.
