Job summary

The Art Studio Coordinator at University of New England oversees UNE’s art studio spaces and the Object Learning Lab, ensuring safety, maintenance, and optimal use for classes and creative projects.

You will manage equipment, organize supplies, supervise student workers, and collaborate with faculty on curriculum delivery, events, and exhibitions, with a flexible half-time schedule Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or related field with 3+ years experience in studio management and art practices.

• Proficiency in operating and maintaining studio tools across traditional and digital media.

Job description

The Art Studio Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of UNE’s current and new art studio spaces, as well as the new Object Learning Lab. They ensure that the studios are safe, well-maintained, and effectively utilized for instructional and purposes. Key responsibilities include maintaining, organizing, and troubleshooting various arts equipment. This role supports faculty and students by managing studio operations, collaborating with faculty on supply needs and orders, maintaining equipment, and fostering a collaborative, creative environment.

This is a half-time position with flexibility in scheduling. The specific days and hours will be determined based on the needs of the position and the selected candidate, with hours falling Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Studio Operations & Maintenance

• Manage studio access, scheduling, and operations to maximize utilization and minimize disruptions.

• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and proper handling of materials.

Inventory & Procurement

• Manage inventory of art supplies and equipment.
• Order and track materials needed for courses and student projects.
• Manage vendor relationships and supply budgets to support efficient studio operations.

Instructional Support

• Prepare studio spaces, materials, and equipment in advance of scheduled classes and activities.
• Provide technical assistance and equipment training to students and faculty.
• Offer periodic workshops to ensure broad access to the arts facilities.

Safety and Compliance

• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and the UNE Health and Safety Officer to maintain safe studio environments.
• Stay informed about industry standards and regulations pertaining to studio operations.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards or concerns proactively.
• Coordinate with faculty and others to schedule studio cleaning and upkeep.
• Understand and comply with the procedures of UNE’s comprehensive OSHA compliance program and the University of New England Safety Manual
• Understand and comply with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act ( RCRA ) Standards.

Supervision Exercised

• May serve as the supervisor of undergraduate student assistants and work‑study students.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or related field plus demonstrated experience (3+ years) in studio management and art practices or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

• At least 1 year of experience training or supervising student workers, interns, or staff.
• Demonstrated ability to teach or assist in studio-based or digital media courses; workshop facilitation experience preferred.
• Proficient in the operation and maintenance of studio tools and equipment across traditional and digital media.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety protocols and RCRA compliance for handling and disposal of studio materials.
• Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, track inventory, and coordinate vendor orders.
• Experience developing studio schedules and maintenance plans to optimize space use.
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to support curriculum and community engagement.
• Demonstrated success in coordinating art events or exhibitions.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of meeting operational deadlines.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards in art studio environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• MFA or equivalent advanced degree.
• Experience teaching at the college level.
• Familiarity with digital arts tools (hardware and software) and processes.
