Art Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) Madera Community College Center

Overview

The ideal candidate will share the Madera Community College Center’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of Fall 2017, the college enrolls over 5,000 students with a diverse population including 66% Latinx, 1% Filipino, 6% Asian, 3% Black/African American, 19% White, 1% American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% multiracial. MCCC is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and aims to meet the educational attainment and economic well-being needs of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Essential Functions of Position

Providing instruction in Art in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus, and large group instruction classes as needed. The instructor will be responsible for:

• Maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position and currency in teaching art;
• Teaching developmental and transfer art courses offered by the department;
• Using a variety of pedagogies and integrating a wide range of instructional delivery systems including innovative and creative uses of technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats;
• Communicating effectively with students;
• Using effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adherence to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines of record;
• Evaluating student progress through tests and examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc. in keeping with course objectives;
• Providing course syllabi to students;
• Maintaining classroom records in accordance with District Policy;
• Turning in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner; and
• Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s in fine arts, art or art history;
• Bachelor’s in any of the above and master’s in humanities;
• A valid California Community College Credential;
• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Note: “Master’s in fine arts” refers to any master’s degree in the subject matter of fine arts, including visual studio arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, metal and jewelry art) and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts, dance, film, photography, or other non-plastic arts.

Desirable Qualifications

• Teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level;
• Teaching experience in breadth of courses and use of varied pedagogies;
• Knowledge of current curriculum and assessment standards in art education;
• Related work and professional experience;
• Experience in computer-assisted instruction and other instructional technologies;
• Effective communication with students, faculty, staff, and administration;
• Ability to develop and update curriculum centered on student learning outcomes;
• Experience working with students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
• Recent experience with racially minoritized students and understanding of historical patterns of exclusion in higher education;
• Willingness to examine and adjust instructional and relational practices to better engage racially minoritized students;
• Experience addressing equity issues in the classroom;
• Potential to contribute to institutional vitality and growth;
• Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.

Salary and Benefits

Starting 38.67 – 52.55 for lab, and 38.30 – 52.05 for non-instructional. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
