Job summary

Scottsdale Arts in Scottsdale, AZ is seeking part-time Art Ambassadors for the Canal Convergence Team, starting mid-October through November 15, 2026. The role focuses on engaging the public at the exhibition, guiding visitors, and discussing artworks.

Evening and weekend availability is required. Candidates should have at least 6 months of public-facing experience, strong communication, and the ability to work well in crowds.

Qualifications

  • 6 months+ of public-facing experience in customer service or art engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read posters and pamphlets; understands QR codes and safety rules.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with public and business communities.
  • Desirable bilingual abilities (Spanish or ASL).
  • Love for people, culture and art; openness to multiple perspectives.
  • Strong organizational skills; able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to think on your feet and be a self-starter.
  • Flexible, creative, dependable; enjoy teamwork and independent work.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs; outdoor exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with the public at exhibition events and discuss artworks.
  • Direct traffic flow and assist with crowd management at the site.
  • Communicate with staff, public, and protection services about artwork status.
  • Help maintain the safety of the exhibition, activities, materials and spaces.
  • Ensure safe working conditions while performing duties.
  • Participate in event prep, nightly setup and teardown as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary:

Are you passionate about public art in our community? Do you enjoy working with the public and have experience working at events? Are you comfortable in crowds and connecting with a diverse community? Do you have knowledge about visual art and possess the ability to inspire others through discussion and visual engagement? If so, then we are looking for you! We are currently seeking part-time staff to work the event, starting in mid-October through November 15, 2026. Evenings and weekends are required. Come join the Canal Convergence Team at Scottsdale Arts as an Art Ambassador.

Important Details to Know:

Compensation: $19.47/hour

Shift/Hours: Part-time, primary evening hours, must be able to work evenings and weekends. See potential Hours below.

Education: High School or equivalent plus either pursuing or already have a degree, diploma, or certificate in education, museum education, music, theatre, art, or related field.

Job Type: Part-time, Non-Exempt

Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Potential Hours/Days:
  • Orientation: October (exact date and time TBD; morning and afternoon options will be provided)
  • 2-hour training session and event orientation.
  • Event Site Tour: November 4, 2025: (Exact time TBD) Artwork/site walk-through with Q&A time at the Scottsdale Waterfront

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Under the direction of supervisor)
  • Engage with the public for a temporary event related to the exhibition, which may include providing assistance with interactive components and discussing the event, the artworks, and providing directions, etc.
  • Assist with directing the flow of traffic throughout the event site.
  • Communicate effectively with key staff, the public, and protection services regarding the status of the artwork and interactive elements.
  • Assist in maintaining the safety of the exhibition, activities, materials, spaces, and other programmatic elements.
  • Ensures safe working conditions while performing job functions.
  • Participates in general event preparation and nightly set-up and tear-down duties as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education:

High School or equivalent plus either pursuing or already have a degree, diploma, or certificate in education, museum education, music, theatre, art, or related field.

Experience:
  • 6 months+ of experience engaging with the public, customer service, hospitality, art engagement, and crowd management.
    Attributes:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as posters and pamphlets and an understanding of QR codes, safety rules, procedure manuals, and technical instructions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues, the public and business community are a necessity.
  • Fluency in another language, especially Spanish or ASL, is desirable.
  • Love people, culture, and art; embrace and value multiple perspectives.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under general direction within a team environment.
  • The ability to think on your feet and respond to visitors’ needs; be a self-starter.
  • Flexible, creative, and dependable; enjoy creative brainstorming, working independently, and with a team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Regular periods of extending standing, walking.
  • Use of hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to talk and hear, taste, smell.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

Due to work requirements will need to work on evenings and weekends as scheduled or needed.
