Job summary

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is seeking a Special Agent for the Investigative Services - Arson Unit. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree, be a certified Class I LEO, and demonstrate a strong commitment to public service.

Responsibilities include leading fire investigations, determining origin and cause, preparing detailed reports, and coordinating with prosecutors. The role demands physical fitness and readiness for 24/7 callouts to support state-wide

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must be a certified Class I Law Enforcement Officer through the SC Criminal Justice Academy or equivalent.
• Knowledge of investigative techniques, interviewing methods, inspections, compliance review strategies, and case management.
• Position requires strenuous physical activities and 24/7 on-call capability.

Responsibilities

• Conduct full and complete fire investigations and provide expert opinion on origin and cause.
• Coordinate with appropriate Solicitor’s office to secure warrants and assist prosecutions.
• Prepare timely investigative reports detailing actions taken.
• Develop professional relationships with Sheriffs, Police Chiefs, and Fire Chiefs in the region.
• Respond to major incidents including church fires, fatal fires, or major fires as needed.
