Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Radiation Therapist to ensure quality patient care and high safety standards in a Radiation Oncology setting. You will administer ionizing radiation per prescription, verify consent, perform patient identifications, and assist in dosimetry and equipment QA.

The position requires graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy Program, ARRT registry eligibility with certification within 12 months, and a temporary MA license with a 12-month path to permanent

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Program.
• Six months Radiation Oncology Therapy experience or equivalent clinical experience obtained through completion of a Radiation Therapy Program.
• Trained in equipment maintenance
• General understanding of Physics, Anatomy and Physiology
• Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities

• Inform patient that ionizing radiation therapy will be administered according to prescription and instruction of the radiation oncologist.
• Check informed consent and patient identification (verbal and picture).
• Check calculations prior to treatment including IMPAC.
• Position patient accurately and ensure comfort.
• Maintain visual and verbal contact with the patient during treatment.
• Deliver treatment per center protocols with minimal supervision after chart Review.
• Prepare treatment room and transfer patient to treatment couch.
• Maintain skin markings and tattoo techniques as needed.
• Observe patient for unusual reactions and report to Radiation Oncologist or Nurse.
• Monitor radiation safety for patients and staff.
• Assist in daily quality assurance checks on treatment equipment.
• Assist in tumor localization and immobilization device preparation; may assist in dosimetry procedures.
• Knowledgeable in the use of multi-leaf collimator.
• Maintain department records and daily treatment chart.
• Perform patient quality assurance.
• Keep treatment and simulation rooms stocked.
• Present professionally.
• Assist in orientation of new employees.
• Provide technical direction and explanations to others.
