Summary:
Uniformed position at all times. Armed Security Officers' duties include being a visible deterrent to criminal activity, providing security for patients, associates, and visitors, protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets, and premises as assigned. The Armed Security Officer is responsible for responding to all emergency codes, internal/external disaster events as needed and/or requested, conducting preliminary investigations of reported incidents, and performing other security-related tasks as directed by a security supervisor and/or manager. The Armed Security Officer must have flexibility in hours and be able to rotate between facilities, including travel whenever necessary. CHRISTUS-approved uniforms must be worn in accordance with dress code requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Conduct frequent security patrols of the facilities and grounds as assigned.
- Identify and report trends related to security issues and recommend actions.
- Take initial information for incident reports, use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, note only facts, leave out personal opinions, and submit reports in a timely manner (no later than the end of the assigned shift).
- Respond promptly to all service requests relayed by supervisor, telephone, pass-on, e-mail, radio, cell phone, and other correspondence in a courteous and expeditious manner.
- Handle collection, inventory, and return of lost and found items, patient valuables, and personal property according to policy.
- Enforce all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and the laws of the state in which CHRISTUS operates.
- Control and enforce facility parking using patrols, violation warning citations, towing, booting, and explanation of rules as applicable.
- Assist clinical/non-clinical associates with combative patients or visitors.
- Demonstrate competence to perform assigned client care responsibilities, meeting age-specific and developmental needs.
- Operate security systems including Attendant Console, Paging System, radio/dispatch system, CCTV, and overhead paging.
- Proficiently use a PC to generate electronic reports, incident reports, emails, and other electronic correspondence.
- Promote a safe environment by reporting observed hazards during security rounds.
- Adapt client assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet individual needs.
- Demonstrate competence with handgun, handcuffs, baton, non-crisis intervention, and two-way radios.
- Handle exposure to aggressive behavior and emotionally charged situations.
- Manage occasional hazardous conditions such as fires, chemical spills, and flooding.
- Endure exposure to external weather conditions and perform physical tasks including walking, standing, stooping, and lifting.
- Be physically fit to walk all areas, restrain individuals, and assist with patient lifting as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, remaining mentally alert and capable of making quick decisions.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, handle multiple tasks, and manage personal stress and potential violence.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of armed security experience preferred, or honorable military service.
- Law enforcement and healthcare security experience preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- Active Level 3 Certification (Texas) required.
- Security officer commission with the Texas Department of Public Safety (TDPSPSB) required for Texas positions.
- Completion of security training courses and certifications as specified, including de-escalation, BLS, firearms, and defensive tactics.
- Successful completion of assessments including psychological and personality inventories.
- Valid driver’s license required.
