Description
Summary:
Uniformed position at all times. Armed Security Officers' duties include being a visible deterrent to criminal activity, providing security for patients, staff, and visitors, protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets, and premises as assigned. They are responsible for responding to all emergency codes, internal/external disaster events as needed, conducting preliminary investigations of reported incidents, and performing other security-related tasks as directed by a security supervisor or manager. Flexibility in working hours and the ability to rotate between facilities and travel as necessary are required. CHRISTUS-approved uniforms must be worn according to dress code requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Conduct frequent security patrols of the facilities and grounds as assigned.
- Identify and report trends related to security issues; recommend actions.
- Take initial information for incident reports, use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, note only facts, omit personal opinions, and submit reports timely (by the end of the shift).
- Respond promptly to all service requests via supervisor, telephone, pass-on, email, radio, cell phone, or other correspondence in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Handle collection, inventory, and return of lost and found items, patient valuables, and personal property according to policy.
- Enforce all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and applicable laws.
- Control and enforce facility parking using patrols, violation warnings, citations, towing, booting, and explaining rules as applicable.
- Assist clinical/non-clinical staff with handling combative patients or visitors.
- Demonstrate competence to perform assigned client care responsibilities, meeting the age-specific and developmental needs of persons served.
- Operate security systems such as Attendant Console, Paging System, security radios, CCTV, and overhead paging system proficiently.
- Use a PC to generate electronic reports, incident reports, emails, and other communications effectively.
- Promote safety by reporting hazards observed during security rounds.
- Adapt assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet individual needs.
- Be proficient with handgun, handcuffs, baton, non-crisis intervention, and two-way radios.
- Handle exposure to aggressive behavior, hazardous conditions, and external weather conditions.
- Perform physical activities including walking, standing, stooping, lifting, and restraining as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, stay alert, communicate effectively, and prioritize tasks under stress.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Minimum two years of armed security experience preferred, or honorable military service substituted.
- Law enforcement and healthcare security experience preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Active Level 3 Certification (Texas) required.
- For Texas positions, an active security officer commission with the Texas Department of Public Safety is required.
- Completion of required training and certifications such as de-escalation, BLS, baton, defensive tactics, firearms, and others as specified.
- Successful completion of assessments including psychological and personality inventories, and a clinical interview.
- Must pass random drug tests.
- Valid driver’s license required.
