Job summary

Piedmont Augusta Hospital seeks a security officer to protect patients, staff and visitors across the Augusta facility. You will respond to emergencies, monitor at-risk individuals, and enforce safety protocols with professional conduct.

Required are a GED and at least 2 years in general security or public safety, with demonstrated handling of firearms and de-escalation techniques. The role is full-time, on-site, with benefits and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

• Equivalent training and job experience to support weapons handling and use of force.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate Piedmont values and provide excellent customer service to patients, staff and visitors.
• Screen for weapons entering the facility and interdict as needed.
• Maintain security of hospital facilities and parking areas.
• Perform safety routines and emergency security activities.
• Document incidents and conduct initial investigations.
• Monitor at-risk patients and de-escalate difficult situations.
• Respond to aggressive behavior; apply restraints when necessary.
• Make sound judgments on use of force to ensure safety.
• Document in medical records and follow PHC policies and laws.
• Direct traffic when required and assist emergencies.

Responsibilities

Responsible for a variety of routine safety and emergency security activities while safeguarding students, employees, visitors, patients, and property. First responder to all emergency incidents within the assigned facility. Responsible for the safe de-escalation of critical events and the use of sound judgment in the engagement with combative or escalating subjects.

• Screen for and interdict weapons as they enter a facility.
• Maintains security of the hospital, professional buildings, and parking lot/deck.
• Responsible for a variety of safety routines and emergency security activities
• Perform incident documentation and initial incident investigation.
• Responsible for actively monitoring all at-risk patients and de-escalating difficult situations.
• Respond appropriately to aggressive behavior and apply physical restraints.
• Make sound judgments when utilizing force, including deadly force, to provide a safe environment.
• Demonstrate respect and courtesy in the conduct of job performance.
• Perform documentation in the medical record.
• Enforces all PHC policies, regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.
• Directs traffic when required
• Assists patients/visitors by giving directions and responding to emergencies.
• Advocates for crime prevention and a secure work environment through observation, interaction, and intervention

Qualifications

Education

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required

Work Experience

• 2 years of experience in general security, military or other public safety experience where required to actively carry a firearm in the regular course of duty Required or
• equivalence of training and job experience to support effective demonstration of responsible handling of weapons and use of force. Required

Licenses and Certifications

• DL NUMBER – Driver License, Valid and in State & adhere to Piedmont’s Healthcare Vehicle Safety Program policy 3500 Upon Hire Required
• IAHSS – Certification As A Security Officer within 1 Year Required
• Carry non-lethal weapons such as a Taser CEW and/or a baton Required
• Carry company issued firearm Required
• Must pass pre-employment psychological screening Required
• Must pass and maintain all training requirements to maintain employment to include certifications in Firearms, Taser, ASP Baton, Mental Health First Aid, and others as directed Required
• Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certification Preferred
