Job summary

Franklin County Municipal Court in Columbus, OH seeks a full-time Security Bailiff Officer for the Court Security Program. You will protect judges, staff, and visitors, screen individuals and packages, monitor security systems, and respond to emergencies while maintaining professional conduct and compliance with directives.

Responsibilities include escorting court personnel, enforcing access control, documenting incidents, and supporting law enforcement during disruptions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years of full-time law enforcement experience with proof of OPOTA Peace Officer Certification or OPOTA certification for armed court bailiffs.
• Must provide a personal duty firearm and qualify annually at a OPOTA firearms range.
• Proven attributes: dependable, professional, able to work under stress, communicate effectively with judges, staff and the public.

Responsibilities

• Protect judges, court staff, and administrators in courtrooms and parking facilities.
• Escort judges, jurors, and courthouse employees as needed.
• Respond to lethal threats and dynamic, chaotic, or evolving situations.
• Screen vendors, visitors, employees, and packages using screening equipment and access-control devices.
• Monitor cameras, alarms, and radio traffic; investigate suspicious activities.
• Maintain compliance with court safety procedures and assist law enforcement during disruptions.
• Prepare and log incident reports and conduct routine security tests on equipment.
• Act as liaison with public and safety personnel during emergencies and respond to inquiries.
• Operate security devices and wear protective gear; undergo ongoing training and annual re-qualifications.
• Maintain professional appearance and address safety concerns proactively.
