Job summary

Barbier Security Group (BSG) is seeking an Armed Security Officer for a prestigious private University in Oakland. The role emphasizes high-visibility patrols, safety escorts, building checks, and liaison with campus personnel and law enforcement.

Applicants with Law Enforcement, Military, or US-based Post Academy experience are prioritized. Must hold a California Guard Card and an armed permit with 5+ years experience, or equivalent background. 24/7 coverage is required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.
• Possess a current California Guard Card License.
• Must have had an armed permit for at least 5 years OR have previous Law Enforcement, Military or Post Academy experience.
• A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record for 3 years is required.
• Reliable transportation is necessary.
• Proficient in basic computer and smartphone usage.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write in English to create accurate reports; additional language skills are a plus.
• Strong listening skills, patience, and compassion, particularly when interacting with community members experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.
• Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, think critically, de-escalate conflicts, and communicate effectively.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in adherence to all laws, regulations, company policies, and confidentiality standards.
• Ensure compliance with both company and client policies and procedures while being open to performance improvement.
• Possess a clear understanding of emergency response procedures and protocols.
• At least one year of experience in security, mobile patrol, or event staff roles.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Successfully pass a background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• High visibility deterrence and patrols on campus.
• Provide safety escorts and building checks.
• Distribute and monitor access at gates; assist dispatch as needed.
• Monitor security, fire/life safety systems, and liaise with campus personnel and law enforcement.
• Maintain accurate documentation of routine and unusual events.
• Uphold professional interactions that foster safety and confidence among faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
