Job description

The Southeastern Wind Coalition (SEWC) is a non-profit coalition working with industry, academia, partner non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government, and utilities to advance the land-based and offshore wind industry in the Southeastern U.S. We take a business-minded and economically focused approach to building the case for wind energy, including the wind supply chain. SEWC regularly convenes stakeholders across our 11-state footprint and leads or participates in strategically important initiatives and discussions to bring wind to the region. We are passionate about growing the wind industry in the Southeast.

POSITION DETAILS

Competitive non-profit salary range of $65,000-75,000, plus 401k plan with company match, technology stipend, 15 days of annual paid time off, 13+ paid holidays including Christmas Eve to New Year's Day, and healthcare reimbursement.

SEWC is a fully remote organization, but this position does require attendance at in-person meetings and events, especially in-state. Local, state, and regional travel is expected up to 25%.

Candidates must be located in Arkansas.

THE ROLE

The Program Manager will be an integral part of advancing SEWC’s program and policy priorities in Arkansas. This includes building and leading various outreach and education efforts, establishing relationships with stakeholders, and supporting member communications. You will be a key staff member in a small, energetic, and mission-driven organization with an entrepreneurial culture. Can-do attitudes and self-starters will fit well. This position reports to the Central States Senior Program Manager.

DUTIES

Short Term

Build knowledge and expertise on land-based wind across the Southeast, with a primary focus on pathways for advancing wind energy development in Arkansas.

Network and meet with stakeholders in the economic development, energy, and rural development sectors to better understand how groups can work together to advance wind energy.

Educate and convene stakeholders and decision-makers across a variety of platforms and in-person meetings.

Build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including state lawmakers, state/federal agencies, universities, NGOs, wind industry supply chain companies, wind energy developers, economic developers, and utilities.

Plan and execute SEWC-hosted events to educate and build support for wind energy in Arkansas.

Attend public meetings, local government meetings, community events, agency meetings, and other public forums to establish presence, monitor sentiment, identify emerging issues, and support fact-based engagement.

Analyze state and federal legislation, state-led solicitations, regulatory docket filings, and conduct any other relevant analyses.

Support the Communications Manager by managing media and communications for programmatic work, including social media, prepping interviews for print and television, drafting op-eds, and other communication needs.

Manage all day-to-day needs of the Arkansas program, attend and set agendas for relevant calls and meetings with partners.

Provide direction, guidance, and support to Associate-level staff.

Represent SEWC at a variety of speaking engagements, conferences, events, meetings with decision makers, etc. to speak on wind technology, economic benefits, and local opportunities with authority.

Medium to Long-Term

Lead the Arkansas Wind Working Group to keep organizations interested, informed, and engaged on wind energy developments at the local and state level. Expand the coalition of partners participating in this call to reach a wide variety of organizations.

Set daily and weekly priorities for the program independently, with longer-term priority guidance in conjunction with leadership.

Contribute to strategic planning and development with the SEWC leadership team. Be able to think critically and participate in high-level discussions about state, regional, and industry needs.

Identify and lead potential new initiatives to advance wind energy in Arkansas.

QUALIFICATIONS

MUST HAVES

Minimum 4-5 years of experience, graduate level education, or a combination of experience and graduate level education in relevant NGO, government relations, energy organizations, or other related professional environments.

Strong prioritization, decision making, and strategic thinking skills.

Must be capable of developing strong professional relationships with a broad range of stakeholders (e.g., industry, non-profits, government, policy-makers) via phone, video, in-person and email.

Experience organizing partners, convening stakeholders, facilitating discussions, and gaining consensus.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set priorities, work effectively from home and maintain a positive attitude.

The candidate must be a self starter and be able to provide examples of proactive thinking and initiatives.

A passion for seeing the clean energy industry grow and a strong drive to contribute to SEWC’s success.

Excellent oral and written presentation skills, including translating technical information to the everyday audience.
