Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking an Area SPD Director to oversee Sterile Processing leadership across Wake Market locations, with 6 managers and 4–6 direct reports and 24/7 leadership responsibility. This role requires interfacility travel and onsite presence across inpatient SPD locations and the OSC.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills
• Decision-making abilities with complex problem solving
• Interpersonal relationship skills in surgical services environment
• Expertise in instrumentation, processing, sterilization, and case cart management
• Understanding of surgical procedures and required instruments for high-volume operations
• Strong planning and organizational abilities
• Coaching and training of staff
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Effective communication with physicians, clinicians and staff
• Budgeting and resource management skills
• Proven track record in Sterile Processing leadership

Responsibilities

• Oversee SPD leadership across Wake Market locations and 24/7 leadership coverage
• Manage comprehensive SPD activities including decontamination, sterilization, distribution and inventory
• Recruit, hire, and develop SPD Managers and direct reports
• Present data and information to senior leadership, physicians and staff in a timely manner
• Collaborate with perioperative leadership on major projects and facility plans
• Recommend policy and procedure modifications to meet standards
• Monitor inventory and implement improvements to control and balance stock
• Utilize instrument tracking systems to manage workflow and staff performance
• Ensure compliance with CMS, TJC, AAMI, APIC standards
• Direct SPD Academy and staff education programs
• Oversee staffing schedules and adherence to budgets
• Communicate with hospital leadership and vendor representatives
