University of Iowa Health Care – North Liberty Campus is seeking an Area Mechanic responsible for maintaining electrical, plumbing, steam, and mechanical systems in the Medical Center North Liberty area. The role emphasizes safety, preventive maintenance, and coordination with multiple teams.

The position requires four years of related craft experience (with apprenticeship or technical training) and includes on-site duties with 100% schedule and a night shift from 11:00pm–7:30am, Monday–Friday,

Qualifications

• Must possess basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, and maintenance of steam and mechanical equipment.
• Must have four years of work experience in the listed crafts, including apprenticeship or technical training.
• Successful candidates will be subject to criminal background checks and credential/education verification.

Responsibilities

• Applies all necessary safety precautions in working with electrical, steam, or mechanical equipment.
• Inspects electrical, mechanical, steam and plumbing equipment for operating efficiency and to locate malfunctions.
• Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions on electrical equipment and related controls in assigned area.
• Performs preventive maintenance procedures such as lubrication, cleaning, changing filters, and replacing parts.
• Checks accomplishment of shop work orders and reports progress to the appropriate office.
• Inspects and reports building problems involving carpentry, painting, roof, masonry, and plastering to determine corrective methods.
• Maintains effective communications with personnel in assigned area and related shops.
• Maintains operating inventory of spare repair parts and supplies.
• Trains shop apprentices, replacements, and other personnel.

Characteristic Duties And Responsibilities

• Applies all necessary safety precautions in working with electrical, steam, or mechanical equipment.
• Performs inspections of electrical, mechanical, steam and plumbing equipment in assigned areas on a periodic basis in order to determine the degree of operating efficiency and to locate and alleviate potential malfunctions.
• Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions on electrical equipment, appliances, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, heating, airconditioningand ventilating equipment controls in assigned area.
• Performs and reports on specific written preventive maintenance procedures (such as lubrication, cleaning, changing filters,making adjustments, and replacing parts) on electrical, mechanical, plumbing and steam equipment in assignedarea.
• Checks accomplishment of shop work orders and returns them to the appropriate office after work is completed.
• Inspects and reports building problems involving carpentry, painting, roof, masonry, and plastering in assigned area in order to determine corrective methods.
• Establishes andmaintainseffective communications with personnellocatedin assigned area and within his/her own and other shops relative to building maintenance and occupant comfort.
• Maintains operating inventory of necessary spare repair parts, filters,beltsand other supplies.
• Trainsshopapprentices, replacements, and other personnel.

Schedule: 100%

Hourly: $23.81 to commensurate

Hours: Monday-Friday 11:00pm-7:30am with rotating weekends and holidays
