Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking an Area Mechanic to operate and maintain the Medical Center North Liberty facility. You will inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical systems, plumbing and electrical equipment, ensuring occupant comfort and safe operation.

Responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and training apprentices and staff. The role requires four years of craft experience and basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, and steam

Qualifications

• Must possess a basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, maintenance of steam and mechanical equipment.
• Must have four years of work experience in the listed crafts, including apprenticeship or technical training.

Responsibilities

• Applies safety precautions when working with electrical, steam, or mechanical equipment.
• Performs inspections of electrical, mechanical, steam and plumbing equipment to determine operating efficiency and locate malfunctions.
• Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions on electrical equipment, appliances, lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, heating, air conditioning and ventilation controls.
• Performs and reports on preventive maintenance procedures such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, adjustments and parts replacement.
• Checks shop work orders and returns them to the appropriate office after completion.
• Inspects and reports building problems in carpentry, painting, roofing, masonry and plastering to determine corrective methods.
• Maintains effective communication with personnel in assigned area and other shops.
• Maintains operating inventory of spare parts, filters, belts and supplies.
• Trains shop apprentices, replacements and other personnel.
