Job summary

The General Hospital Corporation in Boston is seeking an Environmental Services Supervisor to lead the housekeeping program, ensuring a clean, sanitary, and safe hospital environment for patients, visitors and staff.

This full-time evening shift (2:45 PM–11:15 PM, Monday–Friday) oversees standards, staffing, training, inspections, and budgeting, with emphasis on safety and compliance at 66 Blossom Street.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 5-7 years hospital cleaning experience.
• 2-3 years supervisory experience.
• Class D Driver's License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establishes standards, policies, and work procedures for housekeeping staff.
• Develops work schedules and assigns staff to areas and shifts to ensure adequate coverage.
• Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate housekeeping personnel.
• Conducts routine inspections of hospital facilities to assess cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency.
• Recommends repairs, painting, furnishing updates, equipment relocation, and space reallocation to improve sanitation, appearance, and workflow.
• Manages inventory levels of housekeeping supplies and equipment and coordinates the purchase of new or replacement items.

Supervises and manages the Environmental Services/Housekeeping program to ensure the hospital environment is maintained in a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly condition for patients, visitors, and staff.

Essential Functions

• Establishes standards, policies, and work procedures for housekeeping staff in accordance with hospital guidelines.
• Develops work schedules and assigns staff to areas and shifts to ensure adequate coverage and service throughout the hospital.
• Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates housekeeping personnel.
• Conducts routine inspections of hospital facilities to assess cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency.
• Recommends repairs, painting, furnishing updates, equipment relocation, and space reallocation to improve sanitation, appearance, and workflow.
• Identifies and reports unsafe conditions and ensures compliance with safety standards.
• Researches and evaluates new housekeeping equipment, supplies, and cleaning methods.
• Prepares budgets, departmental reports, and other administrative documentation.
• Manages inventory levels of housekeeping supplies and equipment and coordinates the purchase of new or replacement items.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory, infection prevention, and hospital quality standards.

Experience

Experience working with the cleaning equipment and chemicals used in hospitals and healthcare centers 5-7 years preferred and Experience in a supervisory role 2-3 years preferred

• - Knowledge of principles and practices of municipal government administration, operations, and management; methods and techniques of research and report presentation.
• - Knowledge of State and federally mandated laws, guidelines, and regulations regarding solid waste management.
