About this position

Area Manager

Area Manager – Commercial Cleaning & Janitorial Services

Location: Kentwood, MI
Service Area: West Michigan – including Muskegon, Grand Haven, Zeeland, Wyoming & Comstock Park
Position Type: Full-Time | Evening & Flexible Schedule

About the Opportunity

Clean Team is growing in West Michigan! We are seeking a motivated, dependable, and people-focused Area Manager to oversee commercial cleaning operations throughout our West Michigan service area.

This is a front-line, hands-on management position. The Area Manager is highly visible in the field and works directly with cleaning employees and customers every day. This is not a position that manages from behind a desk—you'll be visiting customer locations, supporting employees, inspecting work, solving problems, responding to customer needs, and making sure our operations are running successfully.

You’ll have direct responsibility for supporting multiple customer locations throughout Muskegon, Grand Haven, Zeeland, Wyoming, Comstock Park, and surrounding West Michigan communities.

If you’re someone who enjoys being in the field, working with people, leading by example, solving problems, and taking ownership, this is an excellent opportunity to grow with Clean Team.

What You’ll Do

The Area Manager is responsible for the day-to-day front-line leadership of cleaning operations. You’ll spend significant time in the field supporting employees, customers, and account operations.

Lead & Develop Employees
  • Provide hands-on, front-line leadership and support to cleaning employees.

  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop team members.

  • Build strong working relationships with employees and provide ongoing support.

  • Set clear expectations for attendance, performance, quality, and professionalism.

  • Lead by example and help create a positive, accountable team environment.

  • Address employee questions, concerns, and performance issues promptly and professionally.

Be Present in the Field
  • Regularly visit and manage customer locations throughout the West Michigan service area.

  • Work directly with employees to understand challenges and provide solutions.

  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and quality checks.

  • Provide hands-on support when staffing or operational needs require it.

  • Maintain a strong presence with both employees and customers.

  • Respond quickly to issues and help keep accounts operating successfully.

Monitor Service Quality
  • Conduct regular inspections of customer locations.

  • Ensure cleaning services meet company and customer standards.

  • Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.

  • Follow up on service issues to ensure they are resolved.

  • Maintain consistent quality across multiple customer accounts.

Build Customer Relationships
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and facility contacts.

  • Serve as a front-line point of contact for customer questions and service needs.

  • Respond professionally and promptly to concerns, complaints, and special requests.

  • Communicate proactively regarding staffing, quality, and account needs.

  • Work with customers and company leadership to resolve issues.

Coordinate Staffing & Daily Operations
  • Create and adjust employee schedules as needed.

  • Monitor staffing levels, attendance, and labor hours.

  • Help fill staffing gaps and provide coverage when necessary.

  • Troubleshoot daily operational challenges in the field.

  • Balance multiple priorities while keeping customer accounts running smoothly.

  • Communicate account needs and challenges to Operations leadership.

Manage Supplies & Equipment
  • Monitor supply and equipment needs at customer locations.

  • Ensure cleaning teams have the products, equipment, and resources they need.

  • Identify shortages, equipment issues, and other operational needs.

  • Coordinate solutions to keep employees properly equipped.

Maintain Safety & Security Standards
  • Promote safe work practices and lead by example.

  • Ensure employees follow company safety procedures and proper chemical‑handling practices.

  • Monitor proper use of uniforms and PPE.

  • Ensure building security, closing procedures, and customer‑specific requirements are followed.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a hands‑on leader who is comfortable being out in the field and working directly with employees and customers.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in management, supervision, team leadership, or operations.

  • Commercial cleaning, hospitality, retail, facilities, logistics, or similar experience is a plus.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to coach, motivate, and hold employees accountable.

  • Excellent organization, time management, and problem‑solving skills.

  • A dependable, self‑directed approach.

  • The ability to manage multiple locations and priorities.

  • A willingness to spend significant time in the field rather than behind a desk.

  • A hands‑on approach to leadership and a willingness to step in when needed.

  • A valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and a satisfactory driving record.

  • Ability and willingness to travel between customer locations throughout West Michigan.

  • Availability to work evening hours, as many commercial cleaning operations take place outside traditional business hours.

  • A commitment to professionalism, accountability, employee development, and quality service.
