Student Services Professional II
Cal State East Bay's beautiful main campus is located in theHayward hills with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bayshoreline. Serving as a student-facing member of the Division of StudentAffairs, the work of the Area Coordinator (AC) is structured tosupport the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Priorities of theuniversity. Employed by the Department of University Housing andResidence Life (UHRL), the AC is a full-time, 12-month live-inprofessional staff member. The AC is supervised by the AssociateDirector of Residence Life but also receives director and supportfrom the Assistant Director or Residence Life. AC's at Cal StateEast Bay are expected to initiate "high-touch" front-lineinteraction with students as they develop formal and informalrelationships. They are expected to build communities that focus onstudent learning and development, support student needs, andinclusivity for all students. AC's provide direct oversight fortheir designated residential area and supervise a student staffteam. This position does not conform to a standard 9-5 work day andrequires the individual to work evenings and weekends to best meetthe needs of the community. The AC is responsible for the followingareas in their specific residential community: case managementcentering around student support, crisis management, studentconduct, supervision and leadership, curriculum implementation andsupporting student success. In addition, the AC assists in theoverall development and implementation of University Housing andResidence Life programs and services. The duties of the AC may varyfrom area to area depending on a number of factors (skill set ofthe AC, number of supervisees, level of autonomy of residents,size/condition of buildings, nature of floor communities, etc.) butthe following covers the general expectations of theposition.
This position has been identified to have significantresponsibility for student and campus activities, and will berequired to function as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under theClery Act. In accordance with CSU Executive Order 1107,Implementation of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus SecurityPolicy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the incumbent will beresponsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act crimes to theUniversity Police Department and/or the University CleryDirector.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities ofthe program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods andproblems of organizational and program management. Generalknowledge of research and interview techniques; and of theprinciples of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpretand apply program rules and regulations; use initiative andresourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementinglong-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretativeinformation through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile,analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentationsbased on these data; advise students individually and in groups onroutine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexedand multi‑aged value systems and work accordingly; establish andmaintain cooperative workingrelationships with faculty, CSUadministrators, student organizations, private and public agenciesand others in committee work, and student advising and communitycontacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overalloperation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned.Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actionshaving implications with regard to other program or service areasServices Office. Possession of these knowledge and abilitiestypically is demonstrated through the Experience requirementsbelow.
Experience:
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typicallydemonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professionalexperience in one of the student services program areas or in arelated field; experience should give evidence of competence andindicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in ajob‑related field may be substituted for one year of theprofessional experience.
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university inone of the behavioral sciences, public or business administrationor a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience duringwhich the applicant has acquired and successfully applied theknowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for therequired education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan,as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminalrecords check, verification of academic credentials, licenses,certificates, credit history, professional references and/orverification of work history is required for employment. Cal StateEast Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to theselected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background checkreveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that thecandidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment ofcurrent Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offeredthe position.
