Job summary

Republic Services, Inc. is seeking an Area Accountant to perform accounting activities including recording, analyzing and monitoring financial information with GAAP compliance. The role supports budgeting, audits, and internal controls while guiding other accounting functions.

Applicants should have accounting experience, solid Excel skills, and the ability to work in a high-volume environment. This position involves collaboration across departments and regions within Republic Services.

Qualifications

• Accounting experience.
• Understanding of GAAP principles.
• MS Excel at an intermediate level.
• Ability to research and follow up on non-standard situations.
• Strong interpersonal communication across levels and with external customers.

Responsibilities

• Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries and reports.
• Assist Area Controller with internal controls and policy compliance.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and analyze statements per GAAP and policy.
• May guide accounting personnel across functions (billing, accounts receivable, payroll).
• Support budgeting and forecasting; assist with analytical reviews.
• Contribute to accounting aspects of capital expenditures, transfers, and retirements.
• Assist with periodic audits (internal and external).
• Respond to information requests from corporate and regional finance teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
