Job summary

The University of Montevallo is seeking an Archives Assistant to perform entry-level archival processing, scanning, and research assistance within the Milner Archives and Special Collections division of the Carmichael Library. This student appointment supports faculty and researchers through digitization and finding aids.

Responsibilities include processing archives, scanning materials, and assisting with research requests; opportunities to support class visits and archival workflows.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• Technical competence to operate a scanner and learn data preservation and management.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Maintaining confidentiality and using good judgment with information and records.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn content management systems and metadata schemas used in archival practice.

Responsibilities

• Process archival records, inventories, and re-housing materials in archival-friendly containers and document per the Records Group system.
• Scan materials to support digitization for the web and for research requests.
• Provide research assistance by locating information for researchers such as students, faculty, staff, and the public; assist with class visits and supervising reshelving/rehousing.
