The MetroHealth System's Harold H. Brittingham Memorial Library is seeking an Archives Intern to assist with archival processing and library tasks during a biweekly, 56-hour schedule.

Under the Archivist, you will inventory, rehouse, accession, arrange, and describe items in the collection and participate in digitization projects. Ideal candidates are enrolled in or recent graduates of library science, museum studies, or related programs and possess strong attention to detail and a collaborative

  • Currently pursuing or graduate of an undergraduate or graduate degree in library science, museum studies, information science, public history, or a related degree program at an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to work independently and adhere to stated procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Enthusiasm for working with unprocessed collections in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to comply with System policies related to patient privacy.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Archives Intern-Med Affairs Brittingham Library (Job ID: 39032)

Location: METROHEALTH MEDICAL CENTER


Biweekly Hours: 56.00


Shift: 8am-4:30pm

Summary

Supports projects within the Archives of The MetroHealth System at the Harold H. Brittingham Memorial Library. Working under the direction of the Archivist, helps to inventory, rehouse, accession, arrange, and describe items in the archival collection. Learns best practices for digitizing collection materials, writing appropriate descriptions of collection items, organizing physical collections, and participates in projects related to the history of the MetroHealth System. Works with the small staff of the Harold H. Brittingham Memorial Library in all areas of archival collection management. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.


Qualifications


  • Currently pursuing or graduate of an undergraduate or graduate degree in library science, museum studies, information science, public history, or a related degree program at an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Ability to work independently and adhere to stated procedures.

  • Knowledge and experience with word processing and spreadsheet software.

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Enthusiasm for working with unprocessed collections in a healthcare setting.

Preferred


  • Graduate student pursuing a Master’s-level degree in Library and Information Science, Information, History, Public History, Museum Studies, or related program.

  • Experience working in an archival or related setting.

  • Familiarity with best practices for managing archival data.

  • Interest in future work in health sciences libraries and/or archives.

  • Interest in medical history and/or the history of Cleveland.


Physical Requirements


  • May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.

  • May need to sit or stand for extended periods.

  • See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

  • Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

  • Dexterity to operate office equipment required.

  • May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion.

  • Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.

  • Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
