Job summary

University of Louisville seeks an Archival Access & Collections Development Library Assistant IV to promote access to primary source archives for students, staff, and researchers. The role combines virtual reference, donor coordination, and social media outreach to enhance visibility of ASC collections.

The position supports research access, assists with donor gifts, and helps prepare materials for use by researchers, with a focus on accessibility and promoter outreach on campus and beyond.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in an academic library and/or cultural heritage setting is preferred.
• Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary virtual reference contact, triaging online inquiries and guiding researchers to appropriate ASC collections.
• Conduct reference interviews in-person, by phone, and online to refine research needs.
• Instruct researchers in archival research and handling of materials (photos, rare books).
• As Rare Books’ registrar, manage donor gifts and accession records in ArchivesSpace.
• Oversee transfer of books to Technical Services for cataloging and shelving in ASC.
• Prepare collections for use, including physical arrangement and finding aids in ArchivesSpace.
• Lead ASC’s social media programs and coordinate promotions with Libraries and Communications teams.
• Collaborate with ASC leadership and university teams on advancing ASC programs and outreach.
• Participate in ASC outreach activities, including campus events and exhibitions.
