Job summary

EUA in the United States is seeking an Architectural Specifications Writer to prepare project specifications and manuals for healthcare projects. You will coordinate with drawings, design documents, and the Specifications Team to ensure materials, systems, and installation requirements are aligned with standards.

The role emphasizes building materials knowledge, codes, construction techniques, and clear communication. A bachelor’s degree in Architecture is required, and licensure is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture required.
• Licensed Architect preferred.
• CDT, CSI CCS certification preferred.
• Experience with specifications writing and project architecture beneficial.
• Experience with BSD Spec-Link-E (software) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, prepare, and expedite specifications for construction documents with PMs and project architects.
• Conduct technical investigation of products, materials, and construction methods.
• Ensure compliance with codes and regulations including NFPA 285 assemblies.
• Prepare contract conditions and bidding requirements.
• Generate Preliminary Project Descriptions during early design phases.
• Review submittals for conformance with contract documents.
• Review substitutions for product attributes including life cycle and sustainability.
• Maintain and develop standard specifications and firmwide templates.
• Assist project teams with technical details and information.

Job Details

An Architectural Specifications Writer assists with preparing technical project specifications / project manuals for architectural projects primarily emanating from our healthcare studio, while also coordinating and linking the information back to the overall firm. The writer coordinates the specifications with drawings and design documents to establish material and installation requirements. The specifications writer engages with the firm's Specifications Team to provide firmwide direction on technical requirements and standards. This individual ideally exhibits an understanding of building materials, assemblies, systems, details, codes, construction techniques, and communication strategies.

Activities May Include The Following

• Partner with Project Managers and Project Architects and consultant disciplines to coordinate, prepare, and expedite specifications for construction documents


• Conduct technical investigation of products, materials and construction methods


• Ensure compliance with related codes and regulations, including NFPA 285 assemblies and products


• Prepare contract conditions, general and bidding requirements


• Generate Preliminary Project Descriptions during early design phases


• Review submittals for conformance with contract documents


• Review substitutions for equivalency of product attributes including life cycle, sustainability and risk assessment


• Maintain, edit, and establish new standard specifications sections and firmwide templates


• Assist project teams with technical details and provides necessary technical information


• Research the latest information from manufacturers and vendors


• Work seamlessly with Specifications Team leadership to improve and implement techniques to develop specifications

The Fine Print

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture


• Licensed Architect is preferred


• CDT, CSI CCS Certified is preferred


• Specifications experience and/or combination of Project Architect and specifications writing experience


• Experience with BSD Spec-Link-E a plus (will be using software)


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs


• Annual base salary is $65,000 - $100,000 based on experience
