Position Summary
I am seeking an accomplished Architectural Sales Consultant to develop and grow a presence throughout the Greater Washington, DC metropolitan market. This role is responsible for building strong, long-term relationships with architects, interior designers, contractors, developers, owners, and other key members of the commercial design and construction community.
The Architectural Sales Consultant will serve as a trusted resource throughout the design and construction process—introducing products and solutions, generating specifications, identifying project opportunities, providing technical guidance, and ultimately converting specified projects into sales.
The ideal candidate combines architectural/design industry knowledge with consultative selling skills, strong relationship-building abilities, and a proven ability to develop business within a competitive territory.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Territory Growth
- Develop and execute a strategic sales plan for the Washington, DC metropolitan territory.
- Build and maintain relationships with architectural firms, interior designers, contractors, developers, owners, and other A&D professionals.
- Identify new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, industry events, and existing relationships.
- Develop and maintain a healthy pipeline of active and future commercial projects.
- Establish relationships with key decision-makers, including principals, project architects, designers, specification writers, purchasing teams, contractors, and owners.
- Track market activity, competitors, upcoming projects, and emerging opportunities within the territory.
- Introduce and promote products and solutions during the early stages of project design.
- Work with architects and designers to influence product selection and inclusion in project specifications and basis-of-design documents.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, finish schedules, and project requirements.
- Provide product information, samples, technical documentation, details, and other resources required by design professionals.
- Conduct presentations, product demonstrations, and continuing-education/lunch-and-learn programs for architecture and design firms.
- Monitor specified projects from design through bidding, award, and installation to maximize conversion opportunities.
- Manage the complete sales process from initial contact through project award and delivery.
- Maintain accurate project and customer information within the company's CRM.
- Forecast sales activity, project opportunities, and territory revenue.
- Develop existing accounts while consistently creating new opportunities.
- Provide responsive follow-up and ensure a high level of customer service throughout the project lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with estimating, production, customer service, and marketing teams to develop effective solutions for customers.
- Communicate project requirements and customer expectations clearly to internal stakeholders.
- Assist with resolving product, technical, pricing, and project-related issues.
- Provide feedback to ownership regarding market conditions, customer needs, competitive activity, and product opportunities.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in architectural sales, building products, commercial construction, interior products, specification sales, or a related field.
- Proven success developing relationships with architects, designers, contractors, developers, or commercial building owners.
- Strong understanding of the architectural specification and commercial construction process.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Demonstrated consultative selling and business-development skills.
- Excellent presentation, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and opportunities simultaneously.
- Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office or comparable business software.
- Willingness to travel throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area and surrounding territory as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing relationships within the Washington, DC architectural and design community.
- Experience selling architecturally specified products or building systems.
- Experience conducting AIA/CES or other professional educational presentations.
- Familiarity with CSI specifications, MasterFormat, BIM/Revit, and commercial construction documentation.
- Membership or active participation in organizations such as AIA, ASID, IIDA, CSI, or related industry associations.
