Job summary

HDR, Inc. in Arlington, VA invites currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students to join our employee‑owned team for a hands‑on internship.

You will contribute to real projects and be mentored by architects, project managers, and leaders who value your fresh ideas. You’ll assist with design development drawings, presentations, and models, collaborate with production staff on technical details, and gain exposure to BIM software and 3D visualization.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and basic Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-world experience on projects under supervision.
  • Mentor and engage with recent graduates and leaders through programs.
  • Assist in architectural design process and create presentation graphics for concepts.
  • Follow design development drawings and collaborate on technical details for construction drawings.
  • Collaborate with production staff for technical details and completion of drawings.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Design Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Offer real-world experience on exciting projects
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals' programs
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of an Architect, Project Manager, or other professionals
  • Participate in the architectural design process and develop alternative solutions and presentation graphics used to communicate concepts to client or for agency approval
  • Follow through on design development drawings and models, collaborate with production staff for technical details and completion of construction drawings
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Attention to detail
  • Must possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an architecture program.
  • 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Experience with 3D visualization and physical modeling technologies preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software required.
