Job description

Discovery Capital is a privately owned design-build and property management firm based in Columbia, Missouri. For more than 20 years, we have fulfilled community needs by building a diverse commercial and residential real estate portfolio across the Midwest. Over the years, our portfolio has grown to include hotels, restaurants, mixed‑use and market‑rate communities, in addition to commercial and retail spaces. We remain focused on our plans for growth and currently have several exciting projects under construction and in queue!

We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic and knowledgeable full‑time Architectural Designer with experience in the commercial and multi‑family residential design field. You will have varying tasks from concept planning and rendering preparation to working with the project team throughout the design and construction process.

Responsibilities
  • Develop 2D and 3D presentations and early design studies of site plans, floor plans, and exteriors for project team review.
  • Field measure existing building spaces to prepare as‑built floor plans.
  • Interpret and translate design intent into technical documents.
  • Coordinate with manager the architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical designs to determine a graphical representation of the building plans.
  • Assemble design/construction standard details with directions from manager to develop project booklets.
  • Participate in meetings with architects, engineers, and owners to discuss master‑development planning and understand overall development design intent.
  • Aid in completion of punch‑lists throughout the design and construction process, either through plan‑review or in‑person inspections.
  • Contract design consultants for each project, and coordinate with them throughout each design phase, maintaining a design schedule and considering budget, material availability, and other constraints.
  • Collaborate with clients to help design their office in our commercial spaces, including floorplans, and finish selections. You will be their main point of contact up until they move into their office.
Qualifications
  • REQUIRED: Currently reside in Columbia, Missouri.
  • Comprehension of local and federal building codes, knowing where to look when unsure.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated, deadline driven and highly organized.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Effective listener with ability to understand needs of team members at all levels.
  • Interact effectively with project team, client and reviewing authorities.
