Job summary

McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture is seeking a Project Architect to join the W. Columbia Team. You will lead project teams, supervise contract documents, and coordinate with engineers and consultants to deliver high-quality, code-compliant designs.

The role requires 8–12 years of experience, licensure, and proficiency in Revit, Enscape, Bluebeam, and related tools. Strong communication and budget management are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Architecture or equivalent required.
• Licensed/registered architect status required.
• 8–12 years of architectural experience with project leadership.

Responsibilities

• Provide limited, high-level production supervision on complex projects.
• Assist Project Manager with multiple projects from conception to completion.
• Supervise preparation and accuracy of contract documents and building code reviews.
• Incorporate codes, construction techniques, and cross-disciplinary coordination into projects.
• Perform site observations and report progress and conditions.
• Maintain project cost control and communicate with clients and contractors.
• Write feasibility reports, condition reports and recommendations.
• Lead major design decisions and motivate team to meet milestones.

We are seeking a creative, innovative and talented Project Architect to join our W. Columbia Team!

• Provide limited, high level, production supervision as necessary for work involving a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
• Assist Project Manager with all aspects of managing multiple small to large-scale projects.
• Supervise the preparation and check the accuracy of contract documents.
• Incorporate applicable codes, construction techniques, and sequences in various projects including all aspects of cross disciplines.
• Supervise and/or perform site observations, such as recording and reporting of existing conditions and construction progress.
• Handle problems and questions as they occur during construction. Maintain responsibility for project cost control.
• Responsible for external communications such as making telephone calls and preparing correspondence to clients, officials, and contractors as required by various projects.
• Write reports such as feasibility studies, condition reports, and recommendations.
• Supervise and perform building code reviews and prepare applications.
• Responsible for major design decisions, involving spatial, aesthetic elements, and detailing of materials.
• Document the progression of a routine project through correspondence, memos, etc. Follow routine projects through approvals and construction. Initiate contact with client and building officials.
• Exercise professional judgment in areas of contractual liability.
• Make public presentations.
  
  

Requirements

• Bachelor of Architecture or equivalent
• Registered as a licensed architect
• 8-12 years of experience as an architect
• Experience leading a project team
• Knowledge of estimating project needs and capable of translating them into budget hours/costs
• Ability to monitor the budget of a task or series of tasks and make necessary adjustments to keep on budget
• Capable of providing leadership to a team that is performing a sequence of tasks
• Ability to instill motivation in the team to meet projected milestones and capable of adjusting the procedures to keep the progress on target
• Proficiency with Revit, Enscape, and Bluebeam
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative suite and Newforma software
• Excellent grasp of building technology fundamentals
• Thorough knowledge of relevant codes, operations, processes, and trends
• Excellent time management skills
• Ability to effectively and confidently prioritize and execute tasks with many competing priorities
• Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly
• Clear verbal and written communication skills
