Job summary

Town of Cary is seeking a confident Archery Instructor at Bond Park to run year-round archery programs, JOAD, and archery clubs. The role involves teaching archery to youth and adults, ensuring safety and proper technique, and supporting clinics and events.

The position is part-time, up to 20 hours per week, with weekend and holiday work required; outdoor environment and variable weather are expected. Previous coaching experience and relevant certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED and some archery teaching/coaching experience.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Preference for candidates with youth coaching or archery team coaching experience and USA Archery L2 or equivalent certification.

Job description

Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources is seeking a confident and experienced instructor to serve as an Archery Instructor at Bond Park. This position supports the delivery of Cary’s year-round archery programs, including the Cary JOAD team, Cary Archery Club, introductory archery classes, senior archery classes, and other Outdoor Recreation programs.

The Archery Instructor works with participants of varying ages and skill levels to create a safe, positive, and engaging environment for learning and skill development. The ideal candidate has experience teaching or coaching in the field of archery, enjoys helping others improve, and is comfortable working with both youth and adults. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Program Supervisor – Outdoor Recreation.

Work schedules include afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with extended hours during warmer seasons.

This is a part-time, non-benefit, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. Weekend and holiday work will be required.

• The ability to teach and coach archery skills to individuals and groups with varying ages, abilities, and experience levels.

• The ability to work outside in typical weather conditions, including summer heat and rain.
• The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• The ability to follow program area policies, procedures, and services.

Education & Experience

Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED ANDmust have some experience teaching or coaching archery programs. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:

• Some experience teaching or coaching youth ages 6–17.
• Some experience coaching an archery team or competitive archery program.
• USA Archery L2, National Field Archery Association, or equivalent instructor certification.

Physical Requirements

Work requires the employee to work outside in variable weather and site conditions, including working at height. An employee must be able to climb, walk unassisted, move about freely, and carry moderately heavy items such as equipment and water coolers. An employee must be able to hear and talk to communicate with the public and with groups under instruction. Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal.
