Archaeologist On-Call

Pacific Northwest (WA, OR)

ICF seeks On-Call Archaeologists Crew Chiefs for our Pacific Northwest region (based in Seattle, Portland, or Central Oregon). The On-Call/Temporary Archaeologist will initially work on a large pedestrian block survey in north-central Oregon, expected to run for 2+ months, with an 8 days on - 6 days off field schedule. The project is anticipated to start in mid-to-late May. Single occupancy hotels and transportation to and from Seattle/Portland/Central Oregon will be provided, along with a $68 per diem for working days. Additional work may include construction monitoring, survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, laboratory analysis, background research, report writing, and other tasks as assigned. The position requires excellent field skills, artifact identification, and detailed note-taking. About On-Call Employment with ICF

Due to the seasonal or project-specific nature of our environmental work, ICF hires environmental professionals as “On-Call” employees. These employees are scheduled for work hours as they become available, with work hours typically scheduled weeks in advance, though last-minute scheduling may occur. On-Call employees can accept or refuse assigned hours and may work on outside projects as long as there is no conflict of interest with ICF work.

These are part-time, hourly, non-exempt positions.

Compensation: Crew Chief $30 to $35/hour

Minimum Qualifications - Crew Chief

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of supervising archaeological surveys

Additional Knowledge & Experience

  • Ability to hike up to 10 miles daily in rugged terrain
  • Skill in recording archaeological sites and producing quality notes, forms, and geospatial data
  • Effective communication and coordination with ICF staff
  • Proficiency with computers, smart devices, and data entry applications like ArcGIS Collector
  • Experience in precontact or historic-period archaeology
  • Willingness to conduct field visits throughout Seattle and the Pacific Northwest
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy

Pay Range: The salary for this position, based on full-time employment, ranges from $60,663 to $103,128, depending on factors such as experience, skills, certifications, location, and other considerations.
