Job description

Archeological Field Technician

System One is seeking experienced, team-oriented Archaeological Field Technicians to assist with archaeological fieldwork, laboratory analysis and/or office work. We have a significant amount of field work for the upcoming spring and summer.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
2. Experience conducting Phase I, II, and/or III archaeological investigations.
3. The ability to travel (locally and out of state when required).
4. The ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
5. Physical endurance to conduct archaeological field surveys in remote and challenging environments.
6. A positive attitude, enthusiasm for teamwork, and appreciation for both the challenges and benefits of working in an outdoor field environment.
7. The ability to carry equipment (shovel and screen, GPS unit, and/or tablet) while conducting fieldwork.
8. Prior experience with digital data collection, such as the use of GPS, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, and Survey 123 is preferred.
9. The ability to prepare field records and drawings.
10. A BA/BS degree (or completed coursework) in anthropology, history, geology, or related fields is recommended.
11. Prior archaeological fieldwork experience in the South, Southeast, Midwest, or Mid-Atlantic and/or completion of an archaeological field school.

Schedule and Compensation Details:

1. Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8-hour days (40 hours weekly, off Saturday and Sunday).
2. Overtime: Plenty of opportunities for OT, paid at time and a half.
3. Lodging: Single occupancy hotel room; hotel rooms can be provided over weekends for non-local staff, paid by client.
4. Per Diem: dependent on individual project requirements but typically $65 non-receipt per diem 7 days a week.
