Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Omaha, NE offers a Summer 2027 Arborist Trainee Internship for college students to gain hands-on experience in tree care, plant health care, sales and client services. Starting date flexible; temporary, full-time position with pay of $22.00 per hour on site.

You will join a climbing arborist crew and progressively learn pruning, removal, and safety practices while using equipment like chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.

Qualifications

• Interest in outdoor work.
• Background in forestry, horticulture, landscaping, or working at heights.
• Complete Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving courses upon hire.
• Pesticide licenses/certificates, if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees.
• Operate as a member of a tree crew and learn new skills.
• Learn to prune and remove trees safely and skillfully for clients.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts.

The Davey Tree Expert Companyis looking for exceptional students who are interested in expanding their field experience in theareas of Tree Care, Plant Health Care, Sales and Client Services.

STARTING DATE:

Flexible - We are currently seeking internship candidates for Summer 2027. This is a temporary, full-time position ideal for college students on summer break who want to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Rate of pay: $22.00 hourly

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

• Love of the outdoors
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
