Job summary

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) seeks an interpreter to enable accurate communication among delegates, affected populations, authorities and other stakeholders in sensitive contexts, including detention visits and family tracing.

The role requires English and Arabic fluency (C1); additional ICRC languages are a strong asset. Candidates should have around two years of experience and be prepared to work in challenging environments.

Qualifications

• Excellent command of English (C1) required.
• Excellent command of Arabic (C1) required.
• Proficiency in other ICRC languages is a strong asset.
• 2 years of professional interpreter/translator experience.
• Able to work under pressure in potentially dangerous environments.
• Open-minded and adaptable.
• University education in interpretation or translation is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Oral interpretation: Arabic to English and vice versa during confidential interviews.
• Written translation: Arabic language articles and correspondence into English.
• Analysis and reporting on detention conditions, security and related matters.
• Can be asked to provide support on other protection activities as needed.
