Job summary

Vuzix Corporation is seeking a Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Co-op to participate in design and engineering of wearable AR devices, smart glasses, and related systems. You will transition from prototype to volume manufacturing, work on concept design, prototyping, CAD models, drawings, and manufacturing documentation.

You will collaborate with R&D teams to ensure robust assemblies, analyze tolerance stacks, and support production with fixture design, testing, and early production

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in a degreed program preferably in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
• Self-motivated and driven to learn about new tools and concepts.
• Proficient in Parametric 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks.
• Experience with 3D printers.
• Basic hands-on mechanical proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Design and modify mechanical portions of existing and future products and fixtures using SolidWorks CAD software.
• Create bills of materials, drawings, supporting documentation, and manufacturing work instructions.
• Collaborate with various R&D teams; Electrical, Optical, and Quality Engineering to develop robust, accurate assemblies and systems that are optimized for size, performance, and DFMA.
• Analyze the tolerance stack up of complicated miniature assemblies and incorporate findings into design.
• Provide Engineering support to production groups in the form of collaboration on fixture design, testing, and assembly pilots.
• Design, assemble, and test prototypes and mock-ups using 3D printing and other rapid prototyping techniques.
• Support manufacturing engineering by troubleshooting processes and equipment, writing work instructions, process flow improvements, and occasionally operating equipment/machinery.
• Design, complete, and document assembly and product level testing using molded prototypes and early production products.
• Support or conduct investigative and reliability testing to mechanical and/or thermal parts/assemblies.
• Help maintain and operate equipment used in engineering such as 3D printers, tools, and test equipment.
• Meets required ISO 9001:2015 standards and necessary training based on the relevant Quality Objectives.
