Job summary

Vuzix is seeking an experienced Optical Engineer to lead characterization and testing in a lab environment. You will oversee existing tests, develop new procedures for QA, R&D, and Production, and collaborate with customers and vendors on test results.

The role requires senior-level expertise across optical subsystems, displays, and imaging technologies, with strong communication and documentation skills. Travel is negligible but participation in ISO 9001:2015 alignment is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or equivalent (Master’s preferred).
• 10+ years of detailed experience in a research or product design environment.
• Strong organizational, time management, leadership skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Familiarity with optical test equipment and measurement techniques.
• Familiarity with Zemax software.
• Programming experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Characterize and test micro-displays, projector systems, optical subsystems, and near-eye systems.
• Develop and implement new test methods and procedures for R&D, QA, and production needs.
• Create and maintain detailed test documentation, procedures, and data records.
• Collaborate with QA and Production to establish and calibrate inspection procedures and in-process validation methods.
• Identify, procure, set up, and maintain test and measurement equipment.
• Analyze and interpret test results and develop corrective actions for product and process concerns.
• Provide senior optical engineering expertise and guidance on optical testing and characterization.
• Communicate with vendors, customers, and management as a technical expert.
• Conduct technical reviews to ensure procedures and methods are followed and provide feedback to design team.
• Support transition and implementation of test methods into full-scale production.
• Ensure projects meet schedule, cost, and technical objectives.
• Meet ISO 9001:2015 standards and relevant training.
