This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC); Naval Station; Great Lakes, IL. Incumbent provides lifeguard duties; is responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons at the assigned work area; assists with aquatic training, education, and general support at the installation.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
Pool and/or Waterfront Lifeguard duties (60%) include supervising swimmers, monitoring water activities, applying first aid, enforcing safety rules, performing water rescues, observing and documenting conditions, performing rescue work including CPR, testing pool chemicals, marking swim areas, operating rescue vehicles, administering aquatic assessments, providing orientations, checking IDs, serving as liaison during emergencies, performing cleaning and maintenance, inspecting safety equipment, enforcing policies, and preparing incident reports.
Lead duties (40%) include leading lifeguard teams, scheduling and training staff, monitoring certifications, managing schedules, handling patron concerns, performing opening/closing procedures, leading during emergencies, teaching swimming and water safety, planning activities, and acting in an acting capacity for the Aquatics Program Manager.
Conditions of employment include needing a valid ID for access, obtaining/maintaining First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard certifications, and participating in a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit and E-Verify is required. The position may require travel and adherence to drug-free workplace policies.
Knowledge of safety rules, environmental hazards, policies, cash handling, chemical testing, and rescue techniques. Ability to train, communicate effectively, manage conflicts, and supervise staff.
Salary depends on experience and education. Benefits are comprehensive for federal employees. The position is full-time at mid-senior level.
