Job description

FLSA: Salaried (Exempt)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $70,304 - $75,000

Direct Supervisor: Director, Student Recreation Center

Make a splash. Lead with safety.

A great aquatics program starts with more than a pool. It takes strong leadership, exceptional safety standards, well-trained staff, engaging programs, and someone who knows how to bring it all together.

ASI is looking for an Aquatics and Safety Coordinator to lead the daily operations and programming of the Student Recreation Center pool while helping prepare the broader ASI team to respond when safety matters most.

This is a highly student-facing leadership role. You'll directly supervise a team of approximately 18-20 student lifeguards, student leads, and Red Cross instructors, helping them develop the skills, confidence, and judgment they need to keep our community safe.

You'll also oversee Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid training for ASI employees and play a key role in safety training and preparedness across Titan Recreation.

What You'll Actually Do
  • Lead the daily operations of the Student Recreation Center pool and aquatics program
  • Develop, implement and assess aquatics programs, Learn-to-Swim offerings and special events
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate approximately 18-20 student employees
  • Build and lead ongoing in-service training for lifeguards and aquatics staff
  • Oversee Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid training for ASI employees
  • Lead Titan Recreation Safety Training Days and ongoing employee safety assessments
  • Conduct simulated emergency response drills and help ensure staff are prepared to respond
  • Maintain aquatics safety standards, certifications, records, policies and procedures
  • Ensure aquatic facilities meet applicable health, safety and risk management requirements
  • Develop and manage aquatics and Red Cross program budgets
  • Identify opportunities to grow participation and program revenue
  • Use participation, assessment, and operational data to identify trends and recommend improvements
  • Partner with Titan Recreation and ASI colleagues on programs, events, and initiatives
What This Looks Like in Practice

One day, you might be coaching a student lifeguard through a simulated emergency response. The next, you're reviewing Learn-to-Swim participation, planning an upcoming program or evaluating whether an aquatics procedure needs to be updated.

You could be leading a staff in-service, working with ASI employees on CPR certification, reviewing pool safety records or sitting down with a student employee for a performance conversation.

Throughout it all, you'll be developing students as employees and leaders while maintaining an environment where thousands of Titans can recreate safely.

We're Looking for Someone With
  • A bachelor's degree in kinesiology, recreation or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least one year of related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, manage and evaluate aquatics programs
  • Experience or ability to supervise and direct aquatics operations and staff
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • The ability to independently interpret and apply policies and procedures
  • The ability to build effective working relationships within a diverse, multicultural campus community
  • Experience or ability to prepare and manage budgets and financial reports
Required Certifications
  • You must currently hold:
    • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
    • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) Certification
    • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification
  • Within six months of hire, you must obtain:
    • American Red Cross Title 22 Certification
    • American Red Cross CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification Bridge
    • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification
This Role Is for You If...

You take safety seriously and know that great safety programs are built through preparation, practice and strong leadership.

You enjoy working directly with students and see supervision as an opportunity to coach, teach and develop people.

You're comfortable making decisions, holding people accountable and maintaining high standards.

And you want to lead an aquatics program where recreation, student development and safety come together every day.
