Salary $22.65 - $37.60 per hour (expected $22.65 - $27.05 per hour)

Under the general direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the overall management of the Recreation Department aquatic complex, associated programs, daily operations, staffing, and maintenance of recreational equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes and implements recreational programs. (20%)
  • Implements program policies and procedures. (10%)
  • Assists in managing the daily operations of the SRC aquatics complex. (10%)
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating aquatics staff, including student supervisors, lifeguards, and swim instructors. (10%)
  • Keeps current on instructional methods, techniques and skills through continuing education. (5%)
  • Schedules use of recreational facilities and advises and assists individuals and groups with problems related to scheduled recreational activities. (5%)
  • May be assigned responsibility for leading groups of participants in a variety of social, cultural, recreational and physical activities. (5%)
  • Oversees inventory, storage, budget and maintenance of sports and recreational equipment. (5%)
  • Participates in required professional development activities. (5%)
  • Assists with appropriate public relations and promotional programs. (5%)
  • Reports safety issues to appropriate personnel and recommends improvements. (5%)
  • Maintains files, records and prepares reports as necessary. (5%)
  • Ensures compliance with assigned budget. (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned. (5%)
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent certification. (Preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. (Preferred)
Conditions
  • Obtain Red Cross Title 22 certification within 12 months of appointment date. (Required)
  • Obtain Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor within 12 months of appointment date. (Required)
  • Obtain Red Cross Water Safety Instructor within 12 months of appointment date. (Required)
Experience Requirements
  • 2-4 years of related experience. (Required)
Certification Requirements
  • Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid for Lifeguards/CPR. (Required)
  • Certification to instruct in the applicable recreational sports program or equivalent experience. (Preferred)
  • Red Cross CPR. (Preferred)
  • Standard First Aid Training Certification. (Preferred)
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. (Preferred)
  • Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor. (Preferred)
  • Advanced First Aid (Title 22, EMR, or EMT). (Preferred)
Special Conditions
  • Ability to successfully pass FBI and DOJ Criminal Check. (Required)
  • Exercise the utmost discretion in managing sensitive information. (Required)
  • Ability to work overtime when business needs arise. (Required)
  • Shift work (hours outside standard Mon‑Fri 8 AM‑5 PM). (Required)
  • Night and weekend schedule – Monday‑Friday 10 AM‑7 PM; hours may fluctuate to meet department needs, including weekends and/or late nights. (Required)
  • Travel outside of normal business hours. (Preferred)
  • Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. (Preferred)
Preferred Qualifications

Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills to resolve issues. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Proficiency in the use of basic computer applications relevant to job duties. Specialized knowledge of program activity and industry best practices. Service orientation, program management, sound judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, development of original ideas, and creative problem-solving skills. Leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally. Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.
