Job summary

Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (H.A.R.D.) is looking for a Recreation Specialist II to support our Aquatics Team at Hayward Plunge. The role focuses on planning and delivering recreation programs, guiding staff, and ensuring safe, engaging classes for diverse participants.

The position is part-time, hourly, non-exempt, with a schedule Mon–Fri including weekends and nights, up to 18 hours weekly. Start ASAP; review of applications is ongoing.

Qualifications

• Plan, organize, and implement recreational programs and activities per District rules.
• Lead workers and volunteers, schedule staff, provide training as needed.
• Instruct adults, children, and families in specialized programs.
• Monitor compliance with District policies and safety rules.
• Communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
• Maintain records, reports, and program budgets.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and conducts classes in specialty fields for groups of various ages.
• Serves as a subject matter expert and trains subordinates in a specialty field.
• Stimulates interest and appreciation for the specialty field.
• Maintains and operates equipment; procures supplies for classes.
• Provides technical guidance to students and demonstrates methods.
