Job summary

City of Durham’s Durham Parks and Recreation seeks a Recreation Specialist for the Edison Johnson Aquatic Center to advance aquatics programming, lead safety, and deliver welcoming experiences for Durham residents.

You will develop programs, schedule facility use, manage registrations, coordinate staff, and ensure safety. Required certifications include ARC Lifeguard/LGI/WSI within a year.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in recreation, leisure services, or a related field.
• Two years of recreation services experience in area of assignment.
• Valid, unrestricted, NC driver’s license or ability to obtain NC license within 60 days.
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or equivalent).
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Develop programs; schedule facility use; open/close facilities; collect fees; provide customer service; register participants; prepare records/reports; perform program instruction; train and supervise part-time staff; ensure facility safety and maintenance; assist with marketing and promotions.
