Job summary

City and County of Denver’s Parks and Recreation department seeks an Aquatics Coordinator to design, coordinate, and lead aquatic programs, including swimming lessons and water fitness, while managing day-to-day operations of an indoor pool.

You will recruit and train part-time staff, supervise lifeguards, schedule shifts, evaluate program outcomes, and ensure safety and customer service. The role offers a full-time schedule on-site at a recreation center with opportunities to impact communities.

Qualifications

  • Experience scheduling and staffing pools.
  • Experience facilitating aquatics programming.
  • Knowledge of successful recruitment and retention strategies for lifeguards.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including experience hiring, working with, and mentoring youth.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Digiquatics (or other staff scheduling platforms).
  • Experience delivering American Red Cross learning materials and classes.
  • Experience performing lead work/supervisory duties over aquatics staff.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification, preferred at time of application.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications, preferred at time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Create, implement, and lead Aquatics programs, including swimming lessons and special events.
  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and coaching of part time staff members including Lifeguards and Swim Lesson Instructors.
  • Oversee staff scheduling for Aquatics part time staff at your facility.
  • Evaluate the success of programs and provide feedback to the Aquatics Core Team.
  • Conduct regular staff training on emergency procedures.
  • Deliver equitable, professional, and prompt customer service to community members and facility users.
  • Create and foster partnerships with community leaders, neighborhood organizations, local schools, and other community partners to design programs that fit their unique needs and promote employment opportunities.
