Job summary

The City of Durham is hiring pool lifeguards to help ensure safety for all patrons and to provide a welcoming environment at public pools. You will educate swimmers on rules, enforce regulations, and maintain vigilance to prevent accidents while serving the community.

You will also assist with swim lessons, keep the deck and facilities clean, monitor chemical balances, and participate in required training to stay current on safety standards.

Qualifications

• American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Ability to read, write and follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and well-being of pool patrons.
• Educate patrons on rules and regulations; enforce rules.
• Provide surveillance and respond to emergencies; administer first aid.
• Facilitate swim lessons and supervise instructional activities.
• Maintain pool deck, bathrooms, and showers; test chemical balances.
