Job summary

The City of San Bernardino invites applications for the Community Services Program Coordinator – Aquatics Division. You will oversee daily aquatic facility operations, staff scheduling, lifeguard and instructor supervision, and safety compliance to provide a welcoming, safe environment for patrons.

The ideal candidate has strong leadership, budget management, marketing coordination for programs, and experience developing swim lessons and events.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with two years of college coursework in recreation or related field, or three years of recreation/municipal experience.
• Desirable: Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or related field.
• Minimum of 4–5 years aquatics experience, including 2–3 years supervisory experience.
• Current certifications: Lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid, and Water Safety Instructor (WSI); lifeguard instructor (LGTI) preferred; CPO preferred within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise lifeguards, swim instructors, and frontline staff.
• Develop work schedules to ensure coverage during all hours of operation.
• Conduct in-service trainings, lifeguard skill audits, and emergency response drills.
• Perform annual staff performance evaluations and provide coaching.
• Ensure all staff certifications remain current and compliant with safety rules.
• Oversee aquatics budget, purchasing, and program promotions.
