Job summary

City of Poway, CA, through the Community Services Department, seeks an energetic professional to oversee lifeguard and swim instructor staff, Learn to Swim programs, and pool operations at the Poway Swim Center. The role requires supervising staff, coordinating aquatic activities, and ensuring safety and compliance across facilities and events.

Candidates should have lifeguarding and swim instruction experience, plus relevant certifications and training.

Qualifications

• Two years lifeguarding experience, including one year of swim instructor experience.
• Education: completion of the 12th grade; an Associate’s degree is preferred.
• Must possess Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding, and First Aid/CPR certifications.
• Licensing: First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) or EMT, and Pool Operator certification.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates day-to-day operations of aquatic/recreation programs and facilities.
• Develops and implements goals, objectives, and policies for assigned services, and contributes to budgeting.
• Trains, supervises, orients and guides staff, instructors, and volunteers; prepares schedules and supports evaluations.
• Ensures safety compliance, enforces regulations, and conducts inspections of facilities.
• Oversees Learn to Swim program, assigns instructors to classes, and serves as primary contact for swim classes.
